Sri Lanka and Bangladesh have reportedly expressed their willingness to host the Asia Cup, following the BCCI’s refusal to send their team to Pakistan for the tournament. The BCCI is pushing for a neutral venue for the event and has expressed concerns about player safety in Pakistan. The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) may consider replacing Pakistan in the event with the United Arab Emirates if they choose not to participate. Jay Shah, the president of ACC and secretary of BCCI, has promised to compensate for the losses suffered by broadcasters due to Pakistan’s absence during a future series involving India. Sources suggest that the Indian government has asked BCCI to adopt a strict stance during the next ACC meeting, which may result in the rejection of the hybrid model proposed by Pakistan Cricket Board. The Chairman of the PCB Management Committee, Najam Sethi, has called for a rational approach to solve the crisis that could affect Pakistan’s participation in the ODI World Cup this year. He expressed concerns that if India refused to travel to Pakistan for the Asia Cup, the Pakistani government may not allow the Men in Green to cross the border for their World Cup matches, resulting in cricket being the ultimate sufferer. Sethi called for a middle way to solve the problems that threaten the smooth hosting of ICC and ACC events.
