Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan has given his first detailed interview since his release on bail, expressing deep concerns over the present state of democracy in Pakistan. Speaking with Sky News, Khan lamented that democracy in the country is at an all-time low and expressed his faith in the judiciary as the “only hope” for restoring the rights and freedoms of the people. The former prime minister also raised alarm over the violation of fundamental rights in the country, citing his own distressing experiences of being taken into custody, including two police raids on his residence. Khan accused the government of fearing elections, and revealed that the ruling coalition was only willing to hold elections if he was incarcerated or killed. He also expressed concerns about his safety and security, revealing that there had been two assassination attempts on his life. Despite the challenges he has faced, Khan maintained his readiness to face imprisonment once again.
