The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has initiated an inquiry into the violation of the election code by the Sindh police following the transfer of grade 18 and 19 police officers on May 18, as reported by Dunya News.
According to the ECP, the transfer of senior police officers in Sindh while the Local Government (LG) Elections process in the province is still ongoing constitutes a breach of election regulations. The ECP has explicitly stated that such transfers are in violation of the established election rules.
In response to this violation, the ECP has issued a directive to the Inspector General (IG) of Sindh Police, urging the immediate reversal of the transfer orders issued to the police officers. The ECP further emphasized that once the election schedule has been issued, no further transfer orders can be issued.
The ECP’s swift action reflects its commitment to upholding the integrity and fairness of the electoral process in Pakistan. By addressing this violation promptly, the ECP aims to ensure a level playing field for all candidates and maintain the transparency of the electoral proceedings in Sindh.
