In a surprising turn of events, the Punjab Police conducted a raid on the residence of former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan in Zaman Park. The raid, carried out to apprehend alleged terrorists, resulted in the police leaving with nothing but “water and biscuits,” according to Imran Khan’s Chief Security Officer, Iftikhar Ghuman. The police had obtained warrants to conduct a thorough search at Khan’s residence, but no significant findings were reported.
Addressing reporters after the search operation, Ghuman expressed his views on the situation, stating, “I think they have understood that there is nothing here. The only thing they got here was water and biscuits.” He further emphasized that the doors of Khan’s house were opened in front of the police, inviting them to comment on their findings.
Earlier in the week, the Punjab government claimed that Imran Khan and his Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) party members were sheltering “30 to 40 terrorists” at the residential property. Khan was given a 24-hour ultimatum to surrender the accused, but no action was taken, even after the deadline had expired.
A team consisting of Lahore Commissioner Muhammad Ali Randhawa, DIG Operations Sadiq Dogar, Lahore Deputy Commissioner Rafia Haider, and SSP Operations Sohaib, among others, was dispatched to Khan’s residence to conduct the search operation. Additionally, the Lahore administration brought heavy machinery to remove encroachments outside the PTI chairman’s house.
It is worth noting that Imran Khan is currently entangled in multiple legal cases, encompassing charges ranging from corruption to terrorism. Following the adjournment of the Toshakhana corruption case hearing until next month, Khan received temporary relief on Friday when his interim pre-arrest bail was extended by Lahore’s anti-terrorism court until June 2 in three terrorism-related cases.
