Quetta, Balochistan – In a targeted suicide attack aimed at the convoy of Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) emir Sirajul Haq, the Counterterrorism Department (CTD) has taken action by registering a First Information Report (FIR) against unidentified individuals. The incident occurred on Friday as Mr. Haq was traveling with party workers from Quetta to Zhob town to address a public meeting, narrowly escaping the attack. The blast resulted in injuries to seven people.
Authorities have initiated a joint investigation, involving the CTD and police, to uncover the perpetrators behind this heinous act. The body parts of the suspected suicide bomber have been transferred to the Zhob district hospital, but their identity remains unknown. To further analyze the evidence, the body parts will be sent to the Punjab forensic laboratory.
According to the bomb disposal squad officials, the JI emir and other party leaders emerged unharmed due to the incomplete detonation of the explosive vest worn by the attacker.
Law enforcement officials are actively working to identify and apprehend the individuals responsible for aiding the suicide bomber. A senior police officer expressed confidence that both the facilitators and mastermind behind the attack will be brought to justice.
In response to the incident, JI emir Sirajul Haq was transported to Quetta via a Balochistan government helicopter on Saturday. Meanwhile, party workers and supporters gathered in front of the Quetta Press Club to protest against the assault on their leader’s convoy.
During the gathering, party leaders denounced the attack and characterized it as a conspiracy aimed at eliminating the party’s leadership. They demanded the swift arrest of those involved in orchestrating this disturbing incident.
