Islamabad, May 29, 2023 – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif took to Twitter on Monday to criticize Imran Niazi, alleging that he played a role in exacerbating Pakistan’s economic difficulties by terminating the deal with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and causing economic and political instability through his continuous agitation, long marches, and sit-ins.
In his tweet, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed his belief that Imran Niazi’s understanding of the economy and its broader operating environment is limited. He also accused him of conveniently disregarding his own contributions to the deepening economic challenges faced by Pakistan. From scrapping the IMF deal to his alleged desire for Pakistan to default, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif asserted that Imran Niazi has had a detrimental impact on the country’s economy.
Furthermore, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif highlighted the adverse effects of Imran Niazi’s politics of continuous agitation, long marches, and dharnas on the economy, particularly in terms of causing political instability. He claimed that even domestic investors would hesitate to invest their capital in such an unstable environment deliberately created by Imran Niazi. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif emphasized the significant economic losses incurred on May 9 alone, which he believes are a clear manifestation of Imran Niazi’s malicious intentions. He also mentioned the numerous corruption cases allegedly involving Imran Niazi.
While acknowledging the economic challenges faced by Pakistan, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stated that the worst-case scenario has been surpassed. He assured that sincere efforts are being made to address these challenges through fiscal restraint and timely policy interventions. The Prime Minister added that Pakistan is collaborating with its friends and partners to bridge any financing gaps that may arise.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif identified the key challenge as reducing dependence on imports and curbing inflation. He emphasized that achieving this goal requires making exports, investment, and productivity the driving forces of the economy. He concluded by stating that his administration’s efforts are directed toward this objective.
As the political landscape in Pakistan continues to evolve, economic stability remains a top priority for the government, while accusations and counter-accusations between political leaders persist.
