The race to secure the esteemed position of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman has reached a fever pitch, with candidates actively lobbying and showcasing their qualifications in the nation’s capital.
A prominent contender in this heated competition is Najam Sethi, the current chairman of the Management Committee (MC). Sethi recently engaged in a meeting with PCB patron-in-chief Shahbaz Sharif to discuss his candidacy and gather support. Concurrently, Zaka Ashraf, a former PCB chairman affiliated with the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), held talks with Minister for Inter Provincial Coordination (IPC) Ehsan Mazari, seeking endorsement for the chairman role.
Zaka Ashraf, renowned for his prior experience as PCB chairman, has garnered significant support from Chairman Asif Ali Zardari and Bilawal Bhutto, the PPP leaders. During their hour-long meeting, Minister Ehsan Mazari assured Zaka Ashraf of his party’s unwavering backing, aligning with the PPP’s policy.
As the term of the PCB management committee draws to a close on June 21, the Prime Minister’s office has issued an official letter nominating two individuals for the prestigious position of PCB chairman. Ashraf remains optimistic about receiving the nomination for this influential role.
Expressing reservations about Najam Sethi’s potential candidacy, Mazari highlighted Sethi’s limited involvement in overseeing the electoral process of the board, raising concerns about a possible conflict of interest.
