Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Najam Sethi has informed International Cricket Council (ICC) Chairman Greg Barclay and Chief Executive Officer Geoff Allardice that the Pakistani team will not play their World Cup matches in Ahmedabad, except for the final game. The Press Trust of India, quoting a PCB source, reported that Sethi emphasized to the ICC officials that Pakistan prefers not to have their matches scheduled in Ahmedabad unless it is a knockout match like the final. He requested that the ICC consider Chennai, Bengaluru, and Kolkata as alternative venues if the Pakistan government grants clearance for the team to travel to India for the tournament scheduled in October and November. It should be noted that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) intends to schedule the Pakistan vs India match at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, but the PCB has reservations about the venue.Recently, the ICC heads visited Lahore and upon their return, they declared Pakistan a peaceful country for sports and expressed satisfaction with its ability to host the 2025 Champions Trophy. The ICC delegation also indicated their willingness to mediate between the PCB and the BCCI, seeking assurance from Pakistan regarding their participation in the upcoming World Cup, set to be held in India later this year.Considering that India declined to travel to Pakistan for the Asia Cup, there is a possibility that Pakistan may also refuse to visit India for the 50-over format mega event. A decision on the Asia Cup is expected by the end of this month.
