WhatsApp, the popular messaging platform owned by Meta, is reportedly working on exciting new features and updates for its users. One of the highly anticipated additions is the ability to send high-definition (HD) photos within the app.
According to reports, the forthcoming feature will provide users with the flexibility to choose the quality of the pictures they want to send. A recent report from WABetaInfo discloses that the feature is currently being tested on the beta versions of WhatsApp for Android and iOS. It will be triggered when a user selects a large-sized file, presenting them with the option to send the image as an HD photo.
The introduction of this feature addresses a long-standing demand from WhatsApp users. The platform has thus far not allowed the sharing of high-resolution media files, resulting in the compression of picture quality.
However, it’s important to note that while this new feature maintains the image dimensions, a slight compression will still be applied to the picture. Therefore, sending photos in their original, uncompressed quality will not be possible.
WhatsApp is gradually rolling out the HD picture feature to select beta testers on Android and iOS. Over the next few weeks, it is expected to reach a wider audience as it becomes available to more users.
