Ali Muhammad Khan, a former state minister and prominent leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, has been arrested for the fifth time as authorities intensify their crackdown on former party rulers. The arrest took place shortly after Khan’s release from an anti-terrorism court in Mardan, according to media reports.
Law enforcement officials stated that the 45-year-old politician’s name was included in an anti-corruption case. On Thursday, Khan was apprehended by police immediately after his release from Peshawar jail. Initially, he was detained under the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) Ordinance 1960 following the May 9th violence.
After being released on May 17th, Khan was once again re-arrested. Throughout the process, he stood firm in his support for the embattled leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, despite ongoing actions against the party. As a result, the government revoked his diplomatic passport.
The repeated arrests of Ali Muhammad Khan reflect the government’s determined efforts to crack down on former leaders of the PTI party. The situation continues to unfold, and the authorities are taking stringent measures in their pursuit of accountability and justice.
It remains to be seen how this ongoing crackdown will impact the political landscape in Pakistan and the future of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party, as its members face increasing legal challenges and scrutiny.
