WASHINGTON —
Reporter TDTOP said ” President Joe Biden has begun a series of political fundraisers aimed at bolstering his 2024 reelection campaign in the coming weeks of June.
Biden is currently engaged in four fundraising events in San Francisco, a city known for its strong support and campaign contributions to Democratic leaders. Over the next two weeks, the president has plans for a total of 20 fundraisers, with half of them hosted by himself. First Lady Jill Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, and her husband, Douglas Emhoff, will be speaking at the remaining events.
Although Biden announced his reelection effort in April, he has held relatively few explicitly political events since then. However, he frequently travels from Washington to pivotal political battlegrounds across the country to advocate for new spending on infrastructure, computer chip manufacturing, and climate control, which Congress approved during the early years of his presidency.
Aside from the San Francisco events, Biden intends to attend fundraisers in New York, Maryland, and Illinois, all of which are Democratic strongholds. In Pennsylvania, a traditional political battleground, key worker unions endorsed Biden over the weekend.
“We’ve accomplished a lot,” Biden stated last week. “Now we just need to make sure people are aware of what we’ve done and be honest with them. We need to be as straightforward as possible.”
The timing of these fundraisers aligns with the end of the second quarter, when politicians in the United States are required to disclose the amount of money they have raised and provide a list of major donors.
Although Biden faces minimal opposition in seeking a second term, several Republican presidential candidates are in the early stages of their campaigns for the party’s nomination in the November 2024 election. Republicans are planning their first debate in August, but it remains uncertain how many candidates will be allowed to participate, as the national Republican Party has imposed certain polling and fundraising requirements for qualification.
According to national polls, former President Donald Trump is currently the clear front-runner for the Republican nomination, leading Florida Governor Ron DeSantis by around 30 percentage points. Other candidates are polling at 5% or less.
Opponents to Trump’s candidacy include his former Vice President Mike Pence, former United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley, Senator Tim Scott, and former governors Chris Christie and Asa Hutchinson.
