Ishaq Khakwani, the leader of Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP), has made claims that former Prime Minister Imran Khan colluded with former Chief Justice Saqib Nisar to disqualify Jahangir Khan Tareen, the patron of the newly-formed political party. As the spokesperson for IPP, Khakwani stated that there has been little discussion about how the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief took action against Tareen, who was handed a lifetime disqualification in December 2017.Nisar, who was believed to have inclinations towards the PTI, retired as the Chief Justice of Pakistan in 2019.”Can the PTI chairman deny that there was no assistance from the former chief justice [Nisar]?” questioned Khakwani. He criticized Khan for claiming moral high ground while allegedly not speaking the truth regarding his involvement in the matter.”The PTI chairman will have to provide answers regarding his role in the conspiracy leading to the disqualification of Jahangir Tareen,” Khakwani stated.Jahangir Tareen severed ties with the PTI after differences emerged between him and the party chairman. Tareen played a significant role in Punjab politics, aiding the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) in the appointment of Hamza Shehbaz as the Chief Minister of the country’s most populous province. However, Hamza was later removed from office and replaced by Parvez Elahi, who received backing from the PTI.
