The mayor of Lviv confirmed that an apartment building in the western Ukrainian city was hit by a Russian rocket, resulting in the deaths of at least three individuals. Andriy Sadovyi stated that eight more people were injured, with one in critical condition, marking it as one of the most significant attacks on civilian infrastructure in Lviv. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky promised a substantial response to the assault by “Russian terrorists.” The Russian military has not provided any comments regarding the reported incident.

In a video shared by Mr Sadovyi, the damaged building’s broken windows could be observed. The footage also revealed damaged vehicles and debris. The mayor stated in a brief video message that over 50 apartments were affected, and approximately 50 cars were destroyed. While two individuals were recently rescued from the wreckage, rescue teams continue their search, concerned that additional residents may be trapped.

As the extent of the devastation became apparent, the mayor recorded a subsequent video address. He mentioned that roofs of various buildings had been blown away, and a school and university dormitories had also suffered damage.

In the meantime, the head of the Lviv region, Maksym Kozytskyi, revealed that a “critical infrastructure facility” in the city had been targeted, but did not provide further details. He stated that Russia’s primary objective is the destruction of the Ukrainian people, but expressed confidence in Ukraine’s eventual victory.

Russia has been carrying out deadly missile and drone attacks on Ukrainian cities for months, often targeting civilian areas and causing extensive power outages. Recently, a restaurant and shopping center were struck in Kramatorsk, resulting in the deaths of 13 individuals, including children. Despite being far from the main front lines in eastern and southern Ukraine, Lviv has also experienced attacks from Russia.

On June 20, Lviv officials reported a drone attack that hit critical infrastructure in the city.
