As per sources, there are indications that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) have reached an agreement on appointing Finance Minister Ishaq Dar as the caretaker Prime Minister. Dar mentioned that they plan to amend the Election Act of 2017 to grant the interim ruler the authority to make critical decisions, as reported by The News on Monday.
During an interview with a local television channel, Dar was asked about amending section 230 of the election law, to which he responded affirmatively, stating that it is not feasible to entrust the government with day-to-day decisions during the interim period. He emphasized that there is no need to conceal such matters from the public as they will eventually find out.
Moreover, he expressed his concerns, saying it would be inappropriate to have the nation preoccupied with routine decisions for three months, drawing from past experiences that were not favorable.
According to the sources, the government is now consulting with other political parties after arriving at a consensus.
The sources, as reported by TDTOP News, also stated that the establishment finds the finance minister acceptable as the interim Prime Minister. However, Dar, during the television program, deemed it too early to confirm his selection, highlighting that a proper constitutional process must be followed.
When questioned about the consensus on his name, Dar humbly stated that his track record shows his commitment to performing his duties to the best of his ability. As a practicing Muslim, he believes that one should not seek or lobby for any office, maintaining that his focus has always been on fulfilling his responsibilities diligently.
