In an encounter within the Charmang area of Bajaur district, a valiant soldier attained martyrdom while four terrorists were neutralized, and another was apprehended, according to a report by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Sunday.
As per the ISPR statement, security forces carried out an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in Charmang following credible information about the presence of terrorists.
“An intense exchange of gunfire erupted between the security forces and the terrorists during the operation,” the military’s communication division stated.
Following the successful containment of the militants, one surviving terrorist was taken into custody by the forces.
The seized items from the terrorists included weapons, ammunition, explosives, and a suicide vest. These individuals had been actively involved in various “terrorist activities targeting security forces and perpetrating acts of violence against innocent citizens, particularly through suicide bombings,” the statement noted.
The ISPR identified the martyred soldier as Sepoy Muhammad Shoaib, aged 24.
Furthermore, efforts are underway to clear the area of any remaining terrorists through a thorough sanitization process.
“The security forces of Pakistan remain resolute in their determination to eradicate the menace of terrorism from the country,” the statement emphasized.
Pakistan has experienced a significant surge in terrorist incidents, including multiple suicide bombings and armed assaults primarily directed at police and law enforcement entities in the northwestern provinces. These incidents have led to a substantial loss of life and extensive property damage.
The most recent act of terrorism was the tragic suicide bombing targeting the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F) convention in Bajaur, claiming the lives of over 60 individuals, including children.
The resurgence of militancy has become apparent, particularly following the resurgence of Taliban control in neighboring Afghanistan and the termination of the ceasefire between Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and Islamabad.
Meanwhile, cross-border militancy persists despite Islamabad’s repeated reminders to Afghanistan, urging them to fulfill their commitment of preventing their territory from being used for acts of terrorism against Pakistan
