The World Squash Federation (WSF) has put an end to the age controversy surrounding Pakistan’s Junior Squash Champion, Hamza Khan. The federation, after extensive consultation with experts, including the WSF Medical Commission and the International Olympic Committee, announced on Friday that there is “no evidence” to support Egypt’s claims regarding Hamza Khan’s age. This declaration clears the young athlete of any wrongdoing.
Hamza Khan made history on June 23, securing victory in the World Junior Squash Championship 2023 by defeating Egypt’s Mohamed Zakaria. His triumph marked Pakistan’s first championship win since 1986, a momentous achievement for the country.
However, on July 27, the Egyptian Squash Federation raised concerns about Khan’s age, suggesting that it differed from the one on his passport. Consequently, the WSF initiated an investigation to address these allegations.
In an official statement released on their website, the WSF clarified that their extensive consultation found no credible evidence supporting the claim that Hamza Khan’s age was different from the one recorded on his official passport. The federation emphasized that no medically recognized procedure can accurately determine an individual’s age without a margin of error.
The WSF pointed out that Khan had participated in official international junior events for several years, and his date of birth remained consistent throughout these occasions. The investigation’s outcome has been communicated to both the Egyptian Squash Federation and the Pakistan Squash Federation, officially closing the matter.
In response to the resolution, Hamza Khan expressed relief and gratitude that the matter has been resolved. He reiterated his focus on an upcoming senior tournament scheduled to commence on November 15 in London.
