According to Ukrainian forces, they have freed the town of Robotyne in the southeast, enabling them to advance against Russian forces farther south and strengthen their counteroffensive.
Robotyne is located in the Zaporizhzhia area close to Tokmak, a Russian-occupied transportation center, 10 kilometers south of the frontline town of Orikhiv.
A major victory would be Tokmak’s capture as Ukrainian forces advance southward toward the Sea of Azov in an effort to divide Russian forces after Moscow’s full-scale invasion in February 2022.
“We don’t stop here,” declared a commander who led some of the soldiers into Robotyne and goes by the call sign “Skala,” which is also the name of the battalion he commands.
“Followed by more, we have [the settlement of] Berdiansk. I immediately made it apparent to my fighters that Robotyne was not our target. The Sea of Azov is our target.
Robotyne is located 85 kilometers from the important city of Melitopol and around 100 kilometers from Berdiansk, a port on the Sea of Azov. Both are under Russian military control.
According to Skala, who spoke to Reuters, Ukrainian fighters had overcome what they consider to be the most challenging line of Russian positions in the south, enabling them to accelerate their counteroffensive.
The Ukrainian progress has not been acknowledged by Russia.
According to a statement from the Russian Defense Ministry, troops from Moscow successfully resisted Ukrainian attacks near Robotyne and Verbove.
On social networking website X, formerly known as Twitter, the Ukrainian Defense Ministry broadcast a video of soldiers announcing the liberation and hoisting the flag in the Robotyne hamlet.
President, you are the commander in chief. The 27th Mechanized Brigade and surrounding troops have liberated the village of Robotyne in the Zaporizhzhia region from the occupants, a Ukrainian soldier said in the video.
Hanna Maliar, the deputy defense minister, was cited by the military as saying, “Robotyne has been liberated.”
Maliar previously informed Ukrainian television that the troops from Kiev, who started their counteroffensive in early June, were currently pushing south of Mala Tokmachka and to the southeast of Robotyne.
