Jim Jordan, a Republican congressman, labeled the verdict as “a travesty of justice.” In contrast, Democrat Jerry Nadler asserted that “justice was served.”

Elsewhere, House Democratic leader Hakeem Jeffries emphasized that the US “is a nation built upon the rule of law” and highlighted the importance of “responsible leadership” in respecting the verdict.

House Speaker Mike Johnson, a Republican, described the day as “shameful” in American history. His colleague, House Majority Leader Steve Scalise, called it a “devastating” blow to the concept of blind justice.

Retiring Senate leader Mitch McConnell, despite his strained relationship with Trump, defended him, stating, “These charges never should have been brought in the first place. I expect the conviction to be overturned on appeal,” on X.
