Jahangir Tareen, president of the newly formed Istektam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP), departed for the United Kingdom on Sunday, shortly after the party’s official formation. Speculations are rife that Tareen will hold meetings with leaders of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) during his visit.Sources indicate that Tareen is expected to stay in the UK for over a week. During his time there, he plans to meet with overseas Pakistanis and undergo a medical check-up.The formation of the IPP attracted several defectors from the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, as well as close associates of Prime Minister Imran Khan. Notable figures who joined the IPP include former information minister Fawad Chaudhry, former Sindh governor Imran Ismail, former health minister Amir Kiani, and former Azad Jammu and Kashmir prime minister Sardar Tanveer Ilyas, among others.Tareen dismissed claims that his party was created to replace the PTI, emphasizing that the IPP’s sole objective is to contribute to the country’s development. He expressed disappointment that despite his efforts within the PTI, his fellow members failed to fulfill the party’s manifesto, leading to disillusionment among the people. The IPP chief expressed confidence that more politicians would join the party in the coming days. He pledged that the IPP would work tirelessly to address the nation’s economic challenges and social divisions.Once a close aide to the PTI chief and a key figure in the party’s ascent to power in 2018, Tareen officially launched the IPP on June 8. He stated that his entry into politics was motivated by a desire to play a role in the country’s progress and prosperity.
