The reporter TDTOP High-Level Palestinian Militant Leaders Engage in Talks with Iranian Officials Amid Escalating Violence in the West Bank”

The leaders of Palestinian militant groups Islamic Jihad and Hamas met with top Iranian officials in Tehran on Monday, coinciding with intensifying violence in the Israeli-occupied West Bank.

Islamic Jihad chief Ziad al-Nakhalah held discussions with Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, while Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh met with Ali Akbar Ahmadian, the recently appointed secretary of the Supreme National Security Council (SNSC), before engaging with other high-ranking officials.

According to the Nournews website closely associated with the SNSC, Ahmadian conveyed to Haniyeh that “resistance” remained the most effective means to bring an end to the decades-long occupation of Palestine.

Nakhalah has been in Iran since the previous week and has already met with prominent Iranian figures, including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and President Raisi.

During their meeting, Raisi informed Nakhalah that Israel was actively seeking to normalize relations with additional Arab and Muslim nations as a means to dissuade young Palestinians from seeking the liberation of occupied territories. The president’s office issued a statement expressing support for Palestinian “resistance” against Israel.

In 2020, Israel established diplomatic ties with the United Arab Emirates, Morocco, and Bahrain under the Abraham Accords facilitated by the United States. While Saudi Arabia has refrained from recognizing Israel, partly due to its treatment of the Palestinians, the Sunni Muslim power and its rival Iran agreed to mend ties in March through a deal brokered by China.
