A significant search and rescue operation is currently underway in the North Atlantic following the disappearance of a submersible during its exploration of the Titanic wreckage on Sunday.
During the dive, the Titan sub, manned by its crew, lost contact with the research vessel Polar Prince after approximately one hour and 45 minutes. Authorities involved in the search estimate that the sub has less than 30 hours of oxygen remaining, indicating that supplies are expected to be depleted by approximately 10:00 GMT (06:00 EDT) on Thursday.
Notably, a Canadian aircraft has recently detected “underwater noises” within the designated search area.
OceanGate, a tour company, states that it is actively pursuing all available options to ensure the safe return of the crew, with government agencies also participating in the ongoing rescue operation. Here’s an overview of the current information we have.
