In a recent development, the dissolution of a seven-member bench has prompted senior lawyer Aitzaz Ahsan to demand the resignation of Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, as reported by ARY News on Monday. The seven-member bench, responsible for hearing appeals regarding military court trials of civilians, was dissolved after facing objections from the government. During a media talk outside the court, Aitzaz Ahsan called for Shehbaz Sharif to step down from his position.Aitzaz Ahsan criticized the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government, alleging that they have no intention of holding the general election on the previously announced date of October 8, as per the coalition government’s statement. He pointed out that PML-N vice president and chief organizer Maryam Nawaz, along with Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Fazlur Rehman, have undermined the authority of the courts through their speeches and rallies.Aitzaz Ahsan expressed his concern, stating, “Their responses and speeches during rallies are, in themselves, contemptuous of the court.”Additionally, the senior lawyer called for the Supreme Court to disqualify any politicians found guilty of contempt of court, emphasizing the need for consequences for those who disregard the court’s authority.
