Islamabad: On Wednesday, President Arif Alvi extended an invitation to Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikander Sultan Raja for a meeting either today or tomorrow. The purpose of the meeting is to determine a suitable date for the upcoming general elections.
In a communication addressed to the head of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), the president informed CEC Raja of his responsibility to designate an election date as per Article 48 (5) of the Constitution. This appointment is to be made within 90 days from the date of the assembly’s dissolution.
“In light of the aforementioned, the president warmly invites the chief election commissioner to a meeting either today or tomorrow in order to establish an appropriate date,” the letter stated.
