The White House has strongly criticized the Brazilian President, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, for claiming that the United States is promoting the war in Ukraine. Lula made the statement after visiting China and said that the US must initiate discussions for peace in Ukraine. During a visit to Brazil, the Russian Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov, met with Lula and thanked Brazil for its efforts. A spokesman for the US National Security Council, John Kirby, accused Lula of repeating Russian and Chinese propaganda. Lula, who has positioned himself as a mediator to end the conflict, called for the United States to stop advocating for war and start advocating for peace. These remarks were made after a meeting with the Chinese President, Xi Jinping. China published a peace plan in February that did not explicitly call for Russia to withdraw from Ukraine. In February of last year, Russia invaded Ukraine. The International Criminal Court has since issued an arrest warrant for Russian President.
