Joasia Zakrzewski, a prominent ultramarathon runner from Scotland, has been disqualified from a race for using a car during a section of the route. Zakrzewski had finished third in the 50-mile GB Ultras Manchester to Liverpool race, but it is believed that she had covered 2.5 miles of the race in a car. GPS mapping data tracked her movement during the race, revealing that she had covered one mile in just one minute and 40 seconds. The 47-year-old GP from Dumfries has expressed regret for any inconvenience caused and cited feeling unwell as the reason for her actions. The issue has been reported to UK Athletics. The director of the GB Ultras race, Wayne Drinkwater, has described the incident as an “unsporting, competitive advantage” and said that he was informed of it after the ultramarathon was completed.
