India’s cricket team has made a change to their squad for the World Test Championship (WTC), with Ishan Kishan stepping in to replace the injured KL Rahul. Rahul suffered a wrist injury during the recently concluded Indian Premier League (IPL) and has been ruled out of the WTC final against New Zealand, which is set to take place in Southampton in June.
Kishan, who is a left-handed wicketkeeper-batsman, has been in impressive form in domestic cricket and the IPL. He played a key role for Mumbai Indians in the IPL, scoring 516 runs in 14 matches at an average of 57.33 and a strike rate of 145.76. The 23-year-old has also represented India in limited-overs cricket, making his debut in March this year.
With Kishan joining the squad, India will have more depth in their batting line-up and a capable wicketkeeper in the absence of Rahul. The team will be looking to put up a strong performance against New Zealand in the WTC final and lift the trophy for the first time in their history.
