The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has been unsuccessful in convincing other member nations of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) to adopt its “Hybrid Model” of playing home games in Pakistan, with the exception of India’s games, according to a report by news agency PTI. The PCB had proposed hosting just four round games in Pakistan in a desperate attempt to secure some matches of the upcoming Asia Cup.
A source close to the cricket board informed PTI that PCB chairman Najam Sethi had informed the ACC this week in Dubai that if the proposed plan B of the hybrid model was rejected, Pakistan would withdraw from the Asian Cricket Council and not play in the Asia Cup. Sethi had also suggested that Pakistan host matches between Nepal and Afghanistan, and Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, in the country.
The PCB had rejected the idea of hosting Asia Cup games in Sri Lanka, and Sethi had also conveyed to the ACC that PCB would be happy to play most of its remaining matches in Dubai, including the final. However, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and India had opposed holding the event in the UAE due to the hot weather in September.
The report added that the last two Asia Cups and half of the Indian Premier League in 2021 had been held in the UAE during the same period.
