Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) Chief Organiser Maryam Nawaz has once again voiced criticism against the Supreme Court (SC) and the Chief Justice of Pakistan, accusing the CJP of rewriting the Constitution for arbitrary decisions, misinterpreting Article 63A, and misusing suo motu powers, according to a report by ARY News on Monday.
Speaking at the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) sit-in in Islamabad, Maryam Nawaz directed her criticism towards the Supreme Court (SC) and the CJP, clarifying that they do not intend to criticize judges who consistently uphold the Constitution and the law.
She emphasized that their criticism is aimed at those who allegedly facilitated former premier and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan through illegal means.
Maryam Nawaz claimed that instead of strengthening democracy, the Supreme Court (SC) clashed with the Parliament, and she cited a purported remark by a top judge expressing satisfaction after witnessing an accused involved in a Rs60 billion corruption case, rather than imposing stringent penalties.
Regarding the authority to halt the institution, Maryam Nawaz stated that parliament is the primary institution responsible for lawmaking, asserting that the CJP is not authorized to obstruct its functioning.
She further criticized the doctrine of necessity, stating that it had caused harm to the country. Maryam Nawaz questioned why the doctrine of necessity was not applied to protect the rights of the citizens when some judges had taken oaths under PCO (Provisional Constitution Order).
Maryam Nawaz highlighted that the PDM parties hold respect for the Constitution, judiciary, and law. She affirmed that the true patriots are present at Shahrah-e-Dastoor (Constitution Avenue), emphasizing their commitment to upholding the Constitution of Pakistan.
Accusing the chief justice of rewriting the Constitution for arbitrary decisions, misinterpreting Article 63A, and misusing suo motu powers, Maryam Nawaz alleged that the top court had become a one-man show.
