In a unanimous decision, the National Assembly has passed a motion calling for the establishment of a special committee tasked with filing a reference against Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Umar Ata Bandial in the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC). The reference cites allegations of “misconduct and deviation from oath” by the Chief Justice. The motion was put forward by Dr. Shazia Sobia of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP).
During the parliamentary session, lawmakers expressed strong condemnation for the recent incidents of arson attacks on the Lahore Corps Commanders House, the Radio Pakistan’s Peshawar office, and the extensive damage caused to public and private properties across the country by violent protesters affiliated with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party.
