Former legislators from North Waziristan and Orakzai tribal districts have announced their departure from the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) party in response to the violent protests and arson attacks that occurred on May 9 and 10. The protests erupted following the arrest of PTI chief and former Prime Minister Imran Khan. Iqbal Wazir, the former provincial minister and PTI North Waziristan district president, made the announcement in Peshawar, while Jawad Hussain, a former Member of the National Assembly (MNA), announced his exit from the party in Orakzai. Qaiser Wazir, the senior vice-president of PTI’s North Waziristan district chapter, also stated that he has left the party. Iqbal Wazir emphasized that he made the decision independently, driven by his disapproval of the violence and attacks on national security agencies carried out by some PTI leaders and misguided workers. He praised the people of his area for their ongoing support. Jawad Hussain expressed his loyalty to Imran Khan during his tenure as an MNA but was dismayed by the violence that occurred after Imran Khan’s arrest. He condemned the acts of vandalism and torching of the Lahore corps commander’s residence and the Radio Pakistan building in Peshawar, leading to his resignation from PTI. Both former lawmakers plan to consult with local elders to determine their future political affiliations. PTI President Pervez Khattak denied rumors of his own resignation, attributing them to his political opponents and affirming his commitment to the party.
